What is a hub bearing?


The hub bearing is a part that connects the tire (rotating member) / brake disc (rotating member) and the steering knuckle (Knuckle). Its main function is to reduce friction for the rotating pair and also to transmit torque. It is subjected to very large radial loads (vehicle weight) and axial loads (lateral or lateral impact forces of the tire when steering).


First generation wheel bearing


The first generation of wheel bearings were double row angular contact ball bearings and double row tapered roller bearings.

In order to ensure that the preloading load is within the specified range after installation, the initial bearing clearance is preset, and it is not necessary to use the spacer to adjust the preload load on the automobile assembly line. In addition, the hub bearing comes with a sealing ring, eliminating the need for manual external mounting of the sealing ring.


Generally applicable to: Santana 2000, Chery, Jetta, Passat B5, Mazda, Renault, Peugeot, Volkswagen Golf, minivan and some heavy trucks.


Since the first generation of bearings are independent of the knuckle and the hub, in the online assembly, the inner ring of the bearing needs to be press-fitted onto the hub and the outer ring of the bearing is pressed into the knuckle.


Due to the complex assembly process, equipment and process control requirements are high. Second is the poor performance. Due to the inability to accurately control the process during installation, the performance deviation of the bearing after pressing is also large, and the overall performance is low.


Due to the above shortcomings of the first generation of bearings, its output has been declining year by year. Except for some car manufacturers considering the front wheel bearing bearing still using a generation of bearings, it will eventually disappear.
